What is HHC-B?

Hexahydrocannabutol is a cannabinoid that’s produced by modifying the carbon side chain of HHC (hexahydrocannabinol), to convert the side chain into one that matches that of THC-B (tetrahydrocannabutol).  THC-B, discovered in 2019, is a cannabinoid that’s known to be more intoxicating than delta 9 THC, and capable of offering both stress relief and euphoria to the user.  So, the point of enhancing HHC’s carbon side chain is to offer a more potent form of HHC.  HHC, being the hydrogenated form of THC, is more chemically stable, and this means that HHC-B has profound chemical stability as well.

What is HHC-B’s High Like?

What we know so far is that hexahydrocannabutol’s high is notably stronger than delta 9’s, again because the cannabinoid is so efficient at attaching to our brains’ CB1 receptors that cause the intoxicating effects of cannabis.  The high is less potent than HHC-P, however, which is 10x as potent as that of delta 9.  As for the effects of the high, people who have consumed HHC-B say that it produces feelings of euphoria, significant stress relief, and the sensation of being intensely relaxed throughout the body.

Does HHC-B Have Any Potential Benefits?

HHC-B hasn’t been researched for any possible benefits yet, because of how new it is – the same applies to THC-B and even HHC.  However, the researchers that initially discovered the cannabinoid did find that THC-B works closely with cannabinoid receptors that regulate our pain tolerance and inflammation levels, so we can likely apply that to HHC-B as well.  And, it was determined that HHC-B compound may be particularly useful for sleep, by reducing sleep onset time.

How is HHC-B Made?

Making HHC-B is actually a fascinating process.  It starts with converting CBD into HHC through isomerization – in other words, rearranging CBD’s molecules to turn it into HHC, as cannabinoids are isomers of one another, and CBD is far more cost-effective to isolate because HHC is a trace compound by comparison.

Then, scientists add to the carbon sidechain of HHC, until it matches that of HHC-B, and at this stage, we have a brand new cannabinoid that interacts with cannabinoid receptors in its own fascinating way.

Is HHC-B Actually Legal?

The 2018 Farm Bill legalized the hemp plant on a federal level, by declaring that all hemp derivatives can be sold legally throughout the United States as long as they are tested to prove that they contain no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC.  Because of that, HHC-B is considered a federally legal cannabinoid.  However, a handful of states have since banned psychoactive cannabinoids, and those states are:
