THC-P vs Delta 9 THC

Federally compliant delta 9 THC has arrived, and has already taken over the hemp community, offering a legal way to enjoy the known effects of this absolutely legendary cannabinoid!  While delta 9 THC products  is the most popular cannabis derivative of all time, there are still plenty of people who have yet to actually experience it for themselves.  So, how does delta-9 compare to other cannabinoids that are on the market, which also deliver psychoactive effects?

One cannabinoid that is often compared to delta 9 THC is tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THC-P).  But, that doesn’t mean that these two compounds are gonna give you basically an identical experience.  Delta 9 and THC-P products are very different from one another, and each one has its own distinctive value.  So, let’s compare them to see how they match up against one another.

Why Choose Delta 9 THC?

Delta 9 Origins

Delta 9 THC was first isolated back in 1964, by cannabis researchers wanting to study the dominant cannabinoid in the marijuana plant.  Today’s marijuana can contain up to almost 30% delta 9, but in hemp, you’ll only find about 0.3% of the cannabinoid.

Delta 9’s Psychoactive Properties

Delta 9 THC is the most popular psychoactive cannabinoid in the hemp plant, although it’s actually not the most potently intoxicating.  It offers a moderately potent high that can feel extremely euphoric, uplifting and soothing, all at once.  Delta-9 is known for its effects that are felt both physically and mentally.  The high can take away from mental clarity, so it’s somewhat impairing.

Delta 9’s Non-Psychoactive Properties

In addition to its high, delta 9 THC is associated with a lot of other properties that make it incredibly value beyond being recreational.  The medical marijuana industry in the United States is based off of these properties:

  • Effects on Nausea and Appetite: Studies have found that delta 9 might be able to boost a person’s appetite, and that it can decrease symptoms of nausea while reducing instances of vomiting.
  • Mood-Enhancing Effects: Research has indicated that delta 9 may balance certain neurotransmitters in the brain that play a role in our mood.  It may be able to improve mood overall, while reducing feelings of stress.
  • Anti-Inflammatory and Analgesic Properties: Delta 9 may have a role in managing physical discomfort thanks to a combination of anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, according to studies that have been done over the last few decades.
  • Neurological Balance: Delta 9 seems to play a role in balancing neurological functions by its attachment to neurological cannabinoid receptors, with particular implications in those who have multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.

Purpose for Taking Delta 9

Delta 9 THC is a cannabinoid that is often taken recreationally, because people find its high so enjoyable.  But, the medical marijuana industry has shown us that the cannabinoid offers a lot of value beyond its ability to deliver psychoactive effects.  In other words, it’s a cannabinoid that comes with all kinds of uses in our daily lives.

Delta 9’s Legality

For delta 9 to be federally legal, like the federally compliant delta 9 THC products on the market, it must come from the hemp plant, and the product must contain a maximum of 0.3% delta 9 THC.  Today’s federally compliant delta-9 products contain 0.3% of the cannabinoid, but in large enough portion sizes that the 0.3% comes out to a considerable number of milligrams.

Why Choose THC-P?

THC-P Origin

THC-P is a cannabinoid that was only discovered in December of 2019 by a team of cannabis researchers.  The compound occurs naturally in the hemp plant, in extremely trace levels.

THC-P’s Psychoactive Properties

THC-P is known to be the most intoxicating cannabinoid in the hemp plant, at least that we know of so far.  It’s reported to be about 10 times as psychoactive as delta 9 THC, which basically means that it can get you extremely high, milligram for milligram.  The high is known for being phenomenally euphoric, and how much it may impair cognitive function for the duration of the high is still up for debate because of limited research.

THC-P’s Non-Psychoactive Properties

THC-P is brand-new, and to date, there’s only really been one study on its specific effects.  This research that does exist interestingly shows that THC-P seems to provide the same potential benefits as delta 9 THC, only in a far more potent way.  The cannabinoid seems to work on the same cannabinoid receptors as delta 9 but may bind to these specific receptors at about 31x the rate of delta-9.

Purpose for Taking THC-P

THC-P is mainly taken for recreational reasons, since people naturally want to experience its phenomenally potent high for themselves.  But, it’s clear that there is more than psychoactive value in this cannabinoid, so people might choose it because they want certain effects associated with delta 9 in a more potent way.

THC-P’s Legality

Because of the 2018 Farm Bill, tetrahydrocannabiphorol is federally legal, as it comes from hemp and contains no more than 0.3% delta 9 THC.  This means that under federal law, there are no restrictions regarding product type or THC-P concentration in a particular product.  However, THC-P has been banned in the following states:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Idaho
  • Iowa
  • Mississippi
  • Montana
  • New York
  • North Dakota
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Utah
  • Washington

It goes without saying that both delta 9 THC and THC-P have a lot of exciting effects to offer, and the strongest difference would have to be the high that they produce, with THC-P being far more potent in the long run.  The good news is that there’s no reason why you can only choose one over the other.  Both of these cannabinoids are available to try, and both can find room in your rotation of hemp products.

At Binoid, you’ll have no trouble choosing the very best federally compliant delta 9 and THC-P products to incorporate into your hemp hobby.  We offer a variety of formulas that highlight each of these cannabinoids, all while promising only pure, lab-tested cannabinoid distillates and clean, carefully sourced ingredients.
